Local Sketches at Little Manitou Gallery

Last week we took a daytrip to Manitou Beach.  The atmosphere in the village is of opening-for-the-season; a buzz of activity, projects, construction, and visitors trickling in.  Our official destination was the Little Manitou Gallery, but we also stopped for lunch at the Manitou Springs Hotel where they do a delicious homemade burger, and for Screamers (vanilla soft serve and Hush Puppies slushies) at the Mini-Mart

Part of the vision for my work is to reflect the local in the communities of my home province, so I was excited to bring The Village Inn and The Burger Buoy – a couple of Manitou Beach landmarks- to a gallery in this community.  The Blue Boat is also a Saskatchewan snapshot and seemed to pair well with this little collection of summer sketches.  These framed artworks will be for sale through The Little Manitou Gallery.

Owner Sarah McKen gave me a warm welcome.  She’s created a space where local artists and artisans can showcase their work in several gallery pavilions and on an open stage for the performing arts, and where visitors can take it all in, in a relaxing atmosphere that merges outdoor and indoor spaces.  While the gallery’s open year-round, summer sees an ongoing schedule of events, including a music festival, workshops, and outdoor exhibits.
