Pocket Palette: Photo Essay

Pocket-size tins for pocket palettes

Making a gift pocket palette – Here’s the process in photos.

Empty tins

Half-pans

Small magnets

Crazy glue

Cheap brush (trimmed with hand shears)

Bit of sponge/scrap of rag

Paints

Finished nature journaling palette – fits in the palm, pocket, or inside a pencil case.

Please note: I use mainly Daniel Smith watercolours and they’ve always worked great for pocket palettes, but some watercolour products are only meant to be used wet, straight from the tube. These may crumble and fall apart when dry, which can make a mess of your palette. I found this out the hard way, but sometimes you just fall in love with a colour. I now add Gum Arabic to certain products, to prevent caking and crumbling. It’s a good idea to do a bit of research in advance, but trial and error works too. 🙂

Happy painting!
