With the opening and reception of the gallery exhibit Sketches from Home, followed by leading a workshop at the gallery, I feel I’ve officially stepped out into the world with my art. The support from the gallery, community, friends and family has been heartfelt. And this is to say thank you too, for following and reading this blog.
Having this project wrapped up and hung on the gallery walls, it’s in the hands of the viewer now. It was eye-opening to hear some of the feedback from the public, for these local places have stories and memories that I’ve never heard before, and evoke responses I never expected. Having visited some of the locations again after making the art, I met friendly and welcoming people, was told a few stories, and in one case, offered a yodeling lesson! This project has been a catalyst for a deeper connection to the community.
Many thanks to everyone who came out to the opening, the workshop, shared their stories, or who have come to see Sketches from Home this month.
For anyone still wanting to catch the exhibit, it runs until August 2nd 2024 at the Humboldt Gallery, 601 Main Street, Humboldt, SK.
